Levels: Intermediate/Upper Intermediate/Advanced
Charge rate: Module of 5 calls €75
Call structure : 5 x 30-minute calls (30-minute call: 25-minute activity + 5-minute feedback)
- Students select a time slot (10:00-20:00) e.g Mondays 12,30-13,00.
- Students call the teacher (landline)
- Call programme divided into 4 modules (5 sessions per module)
- Modules sent to students in advance showing outline of content for calls
- Conversation: discussion-based sessions based on themes for face-to-face sessions (all levels except elemental) to focus on fluency and vocabulary
- Structures: to practise using specific structures (conditionals, giving advice, accounts of the past, forming questions)
- Business communication: focus on specific business skills (negotiation, making complaints, giving instructions)
- Language skills: to practise pronunciation, intonation, listening comprehension, etc. (reading, pronunciation games, listening and summarising information)
- Review: key sentences to revise main vocabulary and structures; activities based on those from module; questions from calls or face-to-face sessions
- The teacher provides the student with detailed feedback in the last 5 minutes.
- The student is strongly advised to record feedback in a special notebook.
Example module: Module 1 (Operativo): Networking
- Conversation: Social English – teacher and student ask each other 3 questions to break the ice; role play based on getting to know someone in a range of situations – appropriate/inappropriate questions for business and social settings; making small talk and keeping the conversation flowing, student is asked to produce questions and comments on a range of subject areas (weather, news, business, sport, etc.).
- Structures: Questions – provide the student with a very brief outline of a person (can be famous or fictitious), student must ask questions to get as much information as possible and then present a short presentation. Student then presents a biography based on a time line (focus on past structures).
- Business communication: Presentation of student’s company (positive, suggestive language); presentation of a product/service (providing information, answering questions, persuasion)
- Language skills: Reading a short text (practise reading aloud, focus on clear pronunciation); listening to a text, interruption and asking questions to clarify understanding
- Review: Review of structures, vocabulary (key sentences, word games), mini-dialogues to test fluency, etc.
