27 Dresses

Jane (Katherine Heigl) has been a bridesmaid 27 times and despairs of ever being the bride.  She’s in love with her boss, but he’s only got eyes for Jane’s sister.  Will Jane get her man, or be a bridesmaid yet again?

This is a likeable romantic comedy and Heigl’s character is witty and believable.  If you’re a rom com fan you’ll enjoy 27 Dresses.

Charlie Wilson's War

Tom Hanks plays Charlie Wilson, a Texan congressman covertly funding the Afghan resistance against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.  Wilson is a handsome,  womanising playboy who teams up with a right-wing Texan socialite (Julia Roberts) and an unscrupulous CIA agent (Philip Seymour Hoffman) to conspire to supply billions of dollars to the Mujahideen.

A true story, Charlie Wilson’s War is a funny, sophisticated political satire.
